While the Patriots ended their time with Tim Tebow on Saturday, there was still a chance that the popular quarterback would find a home in the NFL after being put on waivers.
That possibility is now gone, too, though, after the remaining 31 NFL teams all passed on Tebow this weekend. While a quarterback-starved team could have picked him up, the lack of interest now lends credence to those who say Tebow’s NFL career is likely over.
Tebow played three seasons in the NFL, the most successful being his two in Denver. In 2011, he led the Broncos on an improbable late-season run to the playoffs and beat the Pittsburgh Steelers in the first round. He had a 7-4 record that year despite his 46.5 percent completion rate. He threw 12 touchdowns and six interceptions.
Tebow was also used as a fullback and tight end with the Jets, and some people thought he could continue his stay in the league if he found a home at those positions. The Patriots opted to keep him as a quarterback, though, and the common thinking was that if Bill Belichick couldn’t find a use for him, Tebow’s time at the pro level would likely be done.
