Matt CasselTom Brady still has a close relationship with a lot of his former teammates, especially the quarterbacks. That may have led to him letting some private information slip on Wednesday.

Brady revealed during his weekly press conference that former Patriots and current Minnesota Vikings quarterback Matt Cassel might be starting for the Vikes in London this weekend.

“I’m friends with all those guys,” Brady said of his former backups. “Matt Cassel I talk to – he may be starting this weekend.”

Vikings starting quarterback Christian Ponder suffered a rib injury during the loss to the Browns on Sunday, and the injury could sideline him against the Steelers on Sunday. Aside from the injury, though, the Vikings may be displeased with Ponder’s performance so far this season and could be looking for a change. Ponder has completed 59 percent of his passes while throwing two touchdowns and five interceptions on the year, leading to an 0-3 record and plenty of frustrations about the struggles in Minnesota.

If Ponder is ruled out or benched for any reason, Cassel would be in line to get the start. That would mean two of Brady’s proteges, including Cleveland’s Brian Hoyer, will be starting in Week 4.
