You won’t find many around Los Angeles who are opposed to naming a street after legendary Dodgers broadcaster Vin Scully.
Except for Scully himself, that this.
In an interview with ABC 7 over the weekend, L.A. mayor Eric Garcetti discussed the possibility of renaming a street near Dodger Stadium in honor of the man who has been calling Dodgers games since 1950.
“There’s no honor that could be too great for Vin Scully, and I absolutely would love to rename a street for him. We’ll look at a few around the stadium as a possibility,” Garcetti said. “I know there’s been a lot in the Twittersphere, a lot of people tweeting and Facebooking about this.”
Scully, however, politely declined.
“The mayor of Los Angeles has a great deal more important things to do than name a street after me,” he said in the statement. “And if he is considering the idea, better the street should be named after Walter or Peter O’Malley than myself.”
The O’Malleys owned the Dodgers from 1950 to 1998, and the former was instrumental in moving the team from Brooklyn in 1958.
