Willie Colon is taking his ejection and fine for his role in the Jets-Patriots scrum last Thursday in stride, but it’s still got to sting to get both kicked out of a game and have to give up $35,000, especially after teammate D’Brickashaw Ferguson is reportedly only out $15,000 for what he did during the same fight.
Colon said Thursday that the $35,000 fine the NFL has given him was “way more than I expected,” according to Rich Cimini of ESPN.com. Colon threw a punch and also made contact with an official.
“Too much,” Colon said of the fine, which he is planning to appeal. “… They got me for contact with an official, and I guess I was throwing some jabs when I was in the crowd. I kind of got the double whammy, so to speak. It [stinks], but at this point all I can do is appeal it, put it behind me and get ready for Buffalo.”
No Patriots were penalized or fined for their involvement in the shoving match, which started after the Jets’ Nick Mangold hit New England cornerback Aqib Talib below the knees as he was going out of bounds after a game-clinching interception. Talib said this week that he did not think the hit was dirty.
