Vancouver’s Zack Kassian has been suspended for the remainder of the preseason slate, as well as five regular-season games for his hit on Sam Gagner in Saturday night’s game. Kassian’s high-stick on the Oilers center resulted in Gagner losing some teeth, in addition to suffering a broken jaw.

According to TSN, Kassian had a 10-minute phone conversation with Brendan Shanahan on Monday to receive his punishment.

“I had no intention of slashing him in the face,” Kassian told reporters after his hearing. “It was definitely accidental and hopefully he gets back sooner than later.”
