Adam Wainwright got off to a rough start Wednesday night.

No, we’re not talking about the three runs he gave up in the first inning of Game 1, or the two more he surrendered in the second. Wainwright’s struggles began before he even threw his first pitch.

As he stood up and began his trip to the mound for the bottom of the first inning, the 6-foot-7 right-hander clocked his head on the ceiling of the visitors’ dugout at Fenway Park — which was built back when there weren’t a whole lot of 6-foot-7 ballplayers walking around.

Wainwright’s night ended with a bump on the head and a check in the loss column, as the Red Sox touched him for five runs en route to an 8-1 blowout in the World Series opener.
