The San Jose Sharks are the NHL’s highest-scoring team by a sizable margin, but they headed to a shootout Monday night in Detroit with the score knotted at zeros.

It took until the second round of the one-on-ones for San Jose to light the lamp for the first time — with Logan Couture beating Jimmy Howard — and that proved to be all the Sharks would need, thanks to a brilliant save by Antti Niemi.

With Detroit needing a goal to extend the game, the third Red Wings shooter, Todd Bertuzzi, deked left in an attempt to sneak one by the 2013 Vezina finalist. Niemi was fooled and fell down to his stomach, but he was able to flail his right leg in the air to rob Bertuzzi and seal the win for the visitors.

The victory pushed the Sharks to an NHL-best 8-0-1 mark on the season, as they remain the only team yet to lose in regulation.
