Dan Snyder is adamant that he’s never going to change the Washington Redskins’ name — even using all CAPS to get his point across. Well, if nothing else, maybe a call from the President of the United States could change his mind.
Barack Obama recently said that if he were the owner of the Redskins that he would “think about changing” the team’s name because of the “sizeable group of people” that it offends. He didn’t come right out and call for a name change altogether, but he did note that it should at least be given some consideration.
“I don’t know whether our attachment to a particular name should override the real legitimate concerns that people have about these things,” Obama said. “I don’t want to detract from the wonderful Redskins fans that are here. They love their team and rightly so.”
NFL commissioner Roger Goodell sounded fully on board with Snyder’s way of thinking for the last few years, but he seemed to soften his tone on the matter in recent months. Maybe the President gave him a bit of advice, too.
