Jeff DempsThe Tampa Bay Buccaneers will be without running back/return specialist Jeff Demps for the foreseeable future.

Demps, 23, suffered a groin injury during the Bucs’ 31-20 loss to the Eagles on Sunday, forcing him to leave the game. He underwent surgery for the injury this week and will miss an indefinite period of time, head coach Greg Schiano told the Tampa Bay media on Thursday.

Demps was traded to the Buccaneers from the Patriots during the offseason in exchange for running back LeGarrette Blount. The former Florida running back and Olympic track star missed the first few weeks of the season while continuing to pursue his track career overseas.

The Buccaneers activated Demps from the did-not-report list in Week 4. He’s played in the Bucs’ last two games, rushing one time for 14 yards and catching three passes for 21 yards while also serving as the team’s primary kick returner on special teams.
