Brad StevensThe Celtics trimmed their roster down to just 14 players on Saturday, making some tough decisions ahead of next week’s regular-season opener.

Forwards Damen Bell-Holter and DeShawn Sims and guards Chris Babb and Kammron Taylor were waived by the Celtics on Saturday, getting them down below the 15-man roster allotted for the regular season. Each of those players could stick with the Celtics by joining the Maine Red Claws, the Celtics’ D-League affiliate.

Sims and Babb were the two most impressive camp invitees for the Celtics this preseason. Sims played in three games, averaging 2.3 points in four minutes per game during the preseason. Meanwhile, Babb scored 16 points, grabbed four rebounds and dished out three assists over 30 minutes of action over five preseason games with the C’s.

The Celtics open the 2013-14 season in Toronto against the Raptors on Wednesday before welcoming the Milwaukee Bucks to TD Garden for the home opener on Nov. 1.
