Bruins head coach Claude Julien poked a little fun at his Colorado counterpart’s explosive coaching debut on Thursday.
Upset with Ducks boss Bruce Boudreau, Hall of Fame goaltender and first-year Avalanche head coach Patrick Roy nearly dismantled the divider separating the home bench from the visiting bench at Colorado’s Pepsi Center in the final seconds of this year’s season opener.
Roy’s squad make the trip to Boston for the first time since 2011 on Thursday night, and Julien joked during his morning press conference that he has spent the Bruins’ four-day off stretch “fortifying the glass between the benches” at TD Garden, according to multiple media members in attendance.
Intensity is clearly not a problem for the four-time Stanley Cup winner, and it seems to have rubbed off on his team. The Avs are undefeated through their first three games, outscoring opponents by a combined score of 11-3.
