The Dallas Cowboys are still the most popular team in the NFL, according to a recent Harris poll. Even more impressive is the fact that the Cowboys haven’t lost the top spot over the last four years and remain in the same position as America’s football darlings as they did back in 1998 when Leon Lett and Michael Irvin ruled the league from the old Texas Stadium.
The New England Patriots ranked as the fifth-most popular team according to the poll, which drew from a sample size of about 2,500 U.S. adults. That’s down a spot from the Patriots’ ranking from last year, owing possibly to the loss of Wes Welker and the team’s early offensive struggles.
Predictably, the Jacksonville Jaguars were polled as the least popular team in the NFL. As dubious an honor as it is, the Jaguars have held their bottom spot with as much consistency as the Cowboys have theirs — the Jaguars haven’t budged from the league’s basement since 2010.
As depressing as that may be for Jacksonville fans, just don’t show that poll to Jags owner Shad Khan — looking at that for too long will make signing Tim Tebow seem like a good idea.
