It may have taken some time, but the Red Sox’ bats came alive in the ALCS — in a big, big way.

With the bases loaded and two outs in the eighth inning, David Ortiz stepped up to the plate to face Tigers closer Joaquin Benoit. Big Papi wasted no time in getting the job done, knocking the first pitch he saw from Benoit out of the park and into the Sox bullpen.

With one swing of the bat, Ortiz knotted up the score at 5-5. Also on the game-tying grand slam, Detroit’s Torii Hunter went crashing over the wall, trying to rob Ortiz.
