Most Red Sox fans didn’t enjoy Thursday night as much as they wanted to. But a father and son who made the trek all the way from Orlando, Fla., to sit atop the Green Monster had trouble wiping the smiles off their faces after an incredible experience.

The pair flew from Florida very early Thursday morning to watch the World Series and sat in the Monster seats, with the son, Owen Flynn, in Red Sox gear and the dad, Freddy, rocking some awesome earmuffs. (Big League Stew tracked down the pair to get the details.)

When David Ortiz came up to bat in the sixth inning, Freddy told his son to watch out for a home run, and Big Papi obliged, hitting a big homer to the left side to put the Red Sox up 2-1.

The ball headed right for the Flynns. Owen yanked his hat off and moved to catch it, and the pair destroyed all vestiges of food and drink in their path in the scramble — but they came up with the ball and an unforgettable memory.

The two may live in Florida, but they sound 100 percent like New Englanders in this one, and Freddy knew how fortunate they were to have timed their World Series appearance the way they did.

“Most guys who come here, who grew up Red Sox fans, never get a baseball,” Freddy said. “My son, every time he comes to a game, he always ends up getting a ball … He’s the luckiest kid in the world.”

Reading about their excitement in no way matches what it sounded like when they retold the tale to a camera, though (which also has an awesome angle of Ortiz’s home run coming in). Check that out in the video below.
