The AFC East is apparently in an all-out rebellion against the Patriots.
The Jets were responsible for alerting officials about the Patriots’ field goal tendencies on Sunday, leading to the controversial penalty that ultimately helped the Jets secure an overtime win. It appears the Dolphins also had a hand in getting that penalty assessed, according to NFL Network’s Albert Breer.
The Dolphins noticed the Baltimore Ravens trying a similar pushing maneuver on a field goal during their showdown in Week 5. Ravens defensive lineman Chris Canty stunted down and pushed teammate Arthur Jones — just like Chris Jones was flagged for doing for the Patriots — on the Dolphins’ game-tying 57-yard field goal attempt. Kicker Caleb Sturgis missed the try, giving Miami the loss and afterward, Miami officials sent video of the play to the league and asked that the penalty be emphasized going forward.
The NFL acknowledged that the penalty should have been called on the play and explained that game officials would focus more on the play going forward. Although, the penalty went uncalled when the Patriots did the same thing against the Saints in Week 6 and both the Patriots and Jets did it on field-goal attempts before the overtime last week.
