A play in front of the benches Thursday night resulted in a scary moment for Flyers fans.
Late in the second period, Rangers winger Benoit Pouliot battled for the puck with Philadelphia’s Max Talbot in the neutral zone. As the puck skittered toward the boards, Talbot appeared to stumble, and the resulting hit from Pouliot caused the forward to smash face first into the boards.
Talbot was seriously shaken up on the play, needing assistance to remain on his feet as a trainer guided him off the ice. Pouliot was given a five-minute major for boarding and a game misconduct for the hit, but he will not be summoned for a disciplinary hearing, the league announced the following morning.
Talbot later returned to the game after undergoing concussion tests He said afterward that he does not believe the incident was a result of any dirty play on Pouliot’s part.
“I can’t really skate that well, so I may have stumbled on my feet,” Talbot said, according to CSN Philly’s Sarah Baicker. “I didn’t feel like I got pushed or anything.”
A third-period goal by Braydon Coburn gave the Flyers a 2-1 victory — just their second win of the season.
