Erin Cox will think twice about helping a friend in need next time the situation arises.

The captain of North Andover High School’s volleyball team was suspended from the team recently for her involvement in an underage drinking party. Her involvement? She drove to it to pick up a friend, according to the Boston Herald.

The report indicates that Cox, 17, had just finished up work at the Andover Inn before meeting friends at an Andover yogurt shop. A friend, who was reportedly at said underage drinking party, asked her to come pick her up.

As Erin pulled up to the party on Main Street in Boxford, police from Boxford, Haverhill, Georgetown and North Andover showed up and arrested a dozen underage drinkers while also warning another 15 underage youths that they’d be summoned to court for drinking. Erin was one those 15 youths summoned.

Erin was stripped of her captaincy and suspended for five games. Meanwhile, her mother, Eleanor, filed a lawsuit hoping to reverse the high school’s punishment.

“I wasn’t drinking,” she said. “And I felt like going to get her was the right thing to do. Saving her from getting in the car when she was intoxicated and hurt herself or getting in the car with someone else who was drinking. I’d give her a ride home.”
