Sabres enforcer John Scott is going to get a call from the NHL’s Department of Player Safety for his vicious head shot on Bruins forward Loui Eriksson during the third period of Wednesday night’s game in Buffalo.

After Eriksson passed the puck up ice to a teammate, Scott skated toward him and delivered a hard blindside hit with the head being the principal point of contact. It’s an illegal and highly dangerous hit that could result in Scott receiving a suspension of five or more games from the NHL.

Scott was ejected from the game and received two five-minute major penalties, one for charging and another for fighting. The Bruins were given a five-minute power play, and Torey Krug scored on the man advantage with a beautiful shot that beat Buffalo goaltender Ryan Miller to give Boston a 5-2 lead.

UPDATE: TSN is reporting that Scott will have an in-person hearing with the NHL to discuss this hit.
