Jon Lester Nonchalantly Clears Paper Airplane Made From ‘Silverado Strong’ Sign From Field at World Series (Video)

Not much ruffled Jon Lester’s feathers on Monday night.

The pitcher who has become Boston’s definite ace this postseason had no trouble working through the Cardinals’ batting order and pitched all but four outs of Boston’s win, giving up just a solo homer.

But Lester’s talents were not limited to pitching Monday night, as the lefty and his much-talked-about mitt were also put to work tidying the field midgame.

After Major League Baseball wisely scrapped a promotion for Chevrolet that was supposed to build off “Boston Strong” (called “Silverado Strong,” because that’s not trivializing or anything), one fan put a card that had been left in the stands to good use and made a giant paper airplane. The plane took flight in the seventh inning as Lester was working on Yadier Molina, briefly delaying the game.

Molina, ever the gentleman, gestured to Lester that a plane had landed, and Lester meandered over and scooped up the craft, handing it off to the Cardinals batboy. He appeared unflustered by the moment and said after the game that the plane was “well-constructed.”

The Red Sox had already scored all the runs they needed to win, but that didn’t keep some people from suggesting it could be a rally plane.

Lester likely won’t be available for duty of any kind for the rest of this series, which is shifting back to Fenway Park, but it’s good to see he’s versatile. Check out his plane removal in the video below.
