Jose Molina is a large man.

Officially listed at 250 pounds, the middle brother in the family of catching Molinas has never been known for his quick feet on the basepaths. The Rays backstop has attempted just 24 steals in his 14-year major league career, but he elected to take the wheels for a spin Wednesday during the biggest game of Tampa Bay’s season.

With two outs in the top of the fifth inning and Tampa holding a 3-0 lead, Molina took off from first, hoping to catch the Indians’ battery of Bryan Shaw and Yan Gomes napping. He did not, however, as Gomes’ throw reached second in plenty of time to retire the lumbering catcher.
