We all agree that diving is bad, but what should we make of a player who fouls himself then can’t believe the referee won’t award his team a penalty kick?

That’s just what happened Wednesday, when Arturo Vidal tripped over his own feet, fell to the ground and begged the referee to call a foul on his opponent. The Juventus midfielder provided this week’s comic relief with his 62nd minute antics.

Real Madrid’s Asier Illarramendi tracked Vidal’s run into the Madrid area, but he was at least a full step behind Vidal when he went tumbling to the ground.

The referee didn’t buy whatever argument Vidal was trying to make and refused the penalty appeal. Real Madrid would go on to beat 10-man Juventus 2-1 to take a commanding lead in Group B of the UEFA Champions League.
