The Patriots jumped out to a great start against the Jets on Sunday, and rookie cornerback Logan Ryan was at the center of it all.

Ryan was forced into extended duty this week with Aqib Talib unavailable as he recovers from a hip injury. The rookie wasn’t overwhelmed by the opportunity at all, though, making the most of the extra playing time early on.

Jets quarterback Geno Smith was picking on Ryan a lot early in the first quarter, completing a few passes over the top of his fellow rookie on the Jets’ way down to an early touchdown. With the Jets’ offense cruising again, Smith went back Ryan’s way, but this time the corner made him pay.

Near the end of the first quarter, Ryan saw Smith lock onto his receiver out in the flat and took a chance by jumping the route. Ryan got his hands on the football and made a break for the end zone, taking it 79 yards all the way back to the house for the first touchdown of his young NFL career.

The rookie did a little showboating to celebrate his score, too, even seemingly paying homage to Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch with a crotch grab as he jumped backwards into the end zone for the score.
