Mark Fraser, Travis Moen Shed Helmets, Throw Fists During Maple Leafs-Canadiens Scrap (Video)

The NHL will inflict harsher punishments this season on players who remove their helmets to fight, but that didn’t deter Toronto’s Mark Fraser and Montreal’s Travis Moen during Tuesday’s season opener.

When Fraser tossed Brandon Prust to the ground away from the play late in the second period, Moen came to his teammate’s aid. Their bout was preceded by some negotiating, however.

Initiating a fight while wearing a visor — as Fraser now does — also carries with it an additional penalty, so the Leafs brawler convinced Moen to remove his headgear before the two started throwing haymakers. The fight itself could probably be scored a draw, as both combatants landed a few solid shots before spinning each other to the ground.
