Mexican Announcer Cries ‘God Bless America’ After U.S. Win Keeps Mexico’s World Cup Hopes Alive (Video)

Mexico found itself wearing the odd hat of United States supporter Tuesday night.

After dropping a 2-1 decision to Costa Rica on the final day of World Cup qualifying, El Tri needed the U.S. to knock off Panama — in a game that was being played simultaneously — to have any hope of earning a spot in Brazil. The U.S. did just that, scoring twice in stoppage time to win 3-2, and the Mexican television announcers calling their game promptly lost their minds.

Mexico will now have one final shot at qualifying when it takes New Zealand in a home-and-home series next month.
