Al GoldenThe NCAA has finally ruled in the Nevin Shapiro case, and it appears that the Miami football program will escape without further postseason prosecution.

The Hurricanes will be docked nine scholarships (three per year for the next three years) but will not receive a bowl ban, multiple media outlets reported Tuesday morning. The team sat out the past two bowl seasons as well as the 2012 ACC title game as part of a self-imposed punishment.

The investigation into illegal benefits provided by Shapiro, a former Miami booster who is currently serving a 20-year prison sentence on fraud and money laundering charges, to football and basketball players began roughly two and a half years ago.

As part of the sanctions handed down by the NCAA, former Miami basketball head coach Frank Haith has been suspended five games — a suspension that will he will serve in his current position as head coach at Missouri — and former basketball assistant Jorge Fernandez was given a two-year show-cause penalty, a source told ESPN’s Jeff Goodman.

The Hurricanes football team, which currently holds a 6-0 record and occupies the No. 7 spot in the BCS rankings, is eligible for bowl competition this season.
