Ohio State’s Last-Second Touchdown Against Northwestern Swung $100 Million Toward Bettors (Video)
Joey Bosa‘s fumble recovery in the end zone may not have changed the outcome of last Saturday’s Ohio State-Northwestern game, but for those in the sports betting community, it was far from meaningless.
The undefeated Buckeyes were between 5 1/2 and 6 1/2 point favorites in most sports books, but they led Northwestern by just three with only 5 seconds remaining. Bosa’s touchdown, however, which came when the Wildcats botched a desperation hook-and-lateral attempt, allowed Ohio State to cover the spread, losing bookkeepers a whole lot of money.
That one play, bringing the final score to 40-30, swung upward of $100 million in bets, according to Las Vegas gambling expert RJ Bell (via CBS Sports’ Bruce Feldman).
