Ozzie Guillen is looking to get back on the wagon.
After a brief managing stint with the Miami Marlins in 2012 and seven seasons as skipper with the Chicago White Sox, Guillen has been a free agent, so to speak — and he’s got his eye on the open spot in Detroit.
Guillen took to Twitter to respond to a fan and express his interest in joining the Detroit Tigers organization.
Translated, Guillen’s tweet read: “My dream would be to manage the best Miguel Cabrera.”
Guillen and Cabrera have worked together in the past, with Guillen the third base coach for the Marlins and Cabrera on the team in 2003 when it won the World Series. The two Venezuelans are friendly off the field, too.
The Tigers’ manager position was left vacant when Jim Leyland stepped down after eight seasons with the team. The skipper took the Tigers to this year’s ALCS, where the team lost in six games to the Red Sox.
As a manager, Guillen has a 747-710 record, with five winning seasons and four losing seasons.
