Final, Jets 30-27: The Patriots had forced a missed field goal, but Chris Jones hit the long snapper and got flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct.
Nick Folk hit the 42-yard game-winner and the Patriots couldn’t win despite Gronk’s comeback.

Overtime, 14:04, 27-27: Tom Brady couldn’t get it done in the first overtime period. He completed a first down to Rob Gronkowski, then threw three-straight incomplete passes to Dobson, Gronk and Edelman.
The Jets have the ball at the 20-yard line.
End regulation, 27-27: For the second straight week, Tom Brady was able to mount a game-saving fourth-quarter drive. This one appears to be going into overtime as it’s all tied up at 27. Brady looked as sharp as he has all game while connecting with Gronk and Edelman.
Fourth quarter 2:17, Jets 27-24: The Jets did a nice job running down the clock, but couldn’t get any points on the board. Alfonzo Dennard and Steve Gregory both made some nice plays knocking the ball away from New York receivers.
The Patriots have 2:17 left to score.
Fourth quarter 6:32, Jets 27-24: The Patriots needed to put some points on the board on that drive. They did not. Gronk had a drop, Brady overthrew Dobson and Ridley couldn’t get anywhere behind the offensive line.
Brady had a ton of time on his throw to Dosbon, but he still couldn’t find the rookie receiver.
Fourth quarter 8:21, Jets 27-24: The Patriots continued their fourth-quarter ways on that drive, meaning they were looking pretty impressive. Devin McCourty made a couple nice plays and Chris Jones had some key stops. Chandler Jones continues to get after Geno Smith, too.
Fourth quarter, 13:00, Jets 27-24: The Patriots have cut the Jets’ lead to 27-24, though there were certainly some plays New England would like to have back on that drive.
On the final play, it appeared Gronkowski was trying to draw the pass interference rather than catch the ball. It was a very bizarre play. The defense has to play like they have all season in the fourth quarter if the Patriots hope to win this one.
End third quarter, Jets 27-21: It looked like the Patriots were about to go no-huddle, then Antonio Allen got hurt for the Jets. New England’s offense is showing some life here, though. They have the ball on the Jets’ 47-yard line as they’re slowly marching down the field.
Third quarter, 1:30, Jets 27-21: The Patriots have 16 1/2 minutes to mount a six-point comeback. It may be time to go back to the no-huddle. The Patriots’ defense did a nice job of holding on third down for once.
Third quarter, 3:01, Jets 24-21: This game is getting a little out of hand. The Patriots’ offensive line can’t stop the Jets’ front three and New England seems to be stuck in the mud while they’re not in the no-huddle offense.
New York keeps moving the ball on offense, too. If the Patriots give up another touchdown, it’s going to be tough for New England to come back.
Third quarter, 4:33, Jets 24-21: The Jets have taken the lead.
The Patriots’ defense made some serious errors on that drive. Logan Ryan fell down as he was covering David Nelson, Marquice Cole couldn’t stop Geno Smith for a third-down run that went for a first, then Cole got juked by Smith on an 8-yard touchdown run by the rookie quarterback.
Cole has taken over for Kyle Arrington. That was not a pretty drive from the former Jet.
Third quarter, 8:09, Patriots 21-17: Another Patriots drive, another three and out. This has been an ugly half so far for the Patriots. Brady got sacked again, LeGarrette Blount couldn’t get anywhere and Rob Gronkowski couldn’t drag his defender for a first down.
Jets ball.
Third quarter, 9:42, Patriots 21-17: The Patriots’ defense continues to look impressive. Chandler Jones and Chris Jones have two sacks apiece on the day.
Chandler has played Geno Smith four times, dating back to college. He has sacked him twice in every game.
Third quarter, 12:42, Patriots 21-17: The Patriots’ second try didn’t go much better. Ridley couldn’t get anywhere on third down. Some may be doubting Josh McDaniels’ play calling after that drive. The Jets have a chance to take the lead here.
Third quarter, 14:27, Patriots 21-17: Tom Brady just had a disastrous start to the half. He got sacked by Quinton Coples, coughted up the ball and recovered it. On the next play, he threw a pick-six to Antonio Allen.
End half, Patriots 21-10: It wasn’t a perfect half by the Patriots, but Rob Gronkowski is absolutely making his presence known early with four catches for 54 yards. He also drew a major holding call.
The rookies have been big on defense. Logan Ryan had a pick six, Duron Harmon had an impressive pass breakup and Chris Jones sacked Geno Smith.
Second quarter, 2:00, Patriots 21-10: The Jets haven’t been able to get anything going since the Logan Ryan pick-six. Either Geno Smith’s confidence has been shot, or Bill Belichick made some major adjustments. Chris Jones came up with an impressive sack on defense. He’s been a nice interior rusher so far for New England.
Of course, the Patriots couldn’t move the field on their drive either. The Patriots are now driving with two minutes on the clock.
Second quarter, 5:15, Patriots 21-10: The Patriots were helped out greatly by the Julian Edelman punt return and a pretty obvious hold by Antonio Allen on a pass to Gronk. Still, Steven Ridley made a 17-yard touchdown run look easy as he cut to the right side.
Second quarter, 8:06, Patriots 14-10: The Patriots just had their best defensive drive of the game and Dane Fletcher was in for Dont’a Hightower and Marquice Cole was in for Kyle Arrington.
Julian Edelman brought the punt return down to the Jets’ 28-yard line.
Second quarter, 9:44, Patriots 14-10: Tom Brady made some nice completions on that drive, but couldn’t throw deep enough to Rob Gronkowski on the jump ball. Antonio Allen made a nice play on the ball.
The Patriots will punt from their own 48-yard line.
Second quarter, 11:15, Patriots 14-10: For the first time all game the Jets did not convert on third down. They had to settle for a field goal.
It’s pretty, uh, interesting to see the Jets running a wildcat with Josh Cribbs. They have Geno Smith, who can run and pass. With Cribbs behind center, the Patriots know the Jets are running.
End first quarter, Patriots 14-7: The first quarter ended witha big sack by Chandler Jones. The Jets face a third-and-21 situation as the second quarter starts.
It’s obvious the defense misses Aqib Talib, but all it takes is some big plays like the ones by Jones and Ryan to make this an easier win for the Patriots.
First quarter, 1:32, Patriots 14-7: Geno Smith has to limit his turnovers to win this game. Throwing a pick-six to Logan Ryan certainly won’t help him.
Smith was looking good again until Ryan jumped David Nelson’s route. He took it back 80 yards for six.
The Patriots continue to throw out some different alignments on defense. Marcus Forston is getting a lot of action in the 3-4, playing with Joe Vellano and Chris Jones. It’s a big front.
First quarter, 5:58, 7-7: Well, Gronk is back. The tight end looked like his old dominant self, catching two passes for 42 yards.
The Patriots’ offense looks, dare we say, as good as ever? Brandon Bolden took it in for seven, but Gronk was the real star of the drive. Brady too. That Brady guy is pretty good.
First quarter, 9:43, Jets 7-0: The Jets had no trouble moving the ball on the Patriots. They drove down the field for a Jeremy Kerley touchdown.
The Patriots showed some interesting looks on defense. They started out in a 3-4 base with one safety on the field. Jamie Collins was at ROLB and Logan Ryan was playing outside cornerback with Kyle Arrington in the slot. At times they had a 3-4 with Chris Jones, Marcus Forston and Joe Vellano on the line.
It certainly wasn’t an impressive first showing for the defense without Jerod Mayo, Vince Wilfork and Aqib Talib. Today could be a struggle for the Patriots.
First quarter, 15:00: Rob Ninkovich, Devin McCourty, Matthew Slater and Logan Mankins came out for the toss. Zach Sudfeld came out as part of the Jets’ captains. The Patriots won the toss and chose to defer. The Jets will receive.
12:33 p.m.: With Jerod Mayo out, Jamie Collins was taking first-team reps at linebacker. Dan Connolly was with the starters at right guard after missing a practice this week with a concussion.
12:18 p.m.: Rob Gronkowski has taken the field at MetLife Stadium in uniform. He has a big black padded sleeve on his left forearm.
11:29 a.m.: Rob Gronkowski is active. Everyone rejoice.
Matthew Slater and Alfonzo Dennard are also active.
Chris Barker and Josh Boyce are the remaining inactives. Aqib Talib, Danny Amendola, Tommy Kelly, Tavon Wilson and Leon Washington were already announced as being out.
11:25 a.m.: Alfonzo Dennard left the field with the training staff, but now he’s back out with the rest of the defensive backs warming up. That should be a good sign for his availability.
11:00 a.m.: Alfonzo Dennard just spent a long time working with strength and conditioning coach Harold Nash on the field. He got both legs stretched out and spent some time jogging. He was not on the injury report.
10:00 a.m.: Rob Gronkowski is “slated to play” against the Jets, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL.com. Rapoport reported the news on “NFL Gameday First.”
9:45 a.m.: According to Pro Football Talk, the decision will be up to Bill Belichick whether Rob Gronkowski plays or not.
We’re here live at MetLife Stadium. The sun is bright, but it’s a brisk 54 degrees outside. We’ll keep you updated on Gronkowski’s availability.
8 a.m. ET: Rob Gronkowski has been cleared by doctors, but that doesn’t necessarily mean he’ll play against the Jets.
Gronkowski made the trip to New York, but his status for the game is still undetermined, according to Pro Football Talk. Gronkowski’s return would obviously be a major boost to the Patriots’ offense.
New England will be without star cornerback Aqib Talib, wide receiver Danny Amendola, defensive tackle Tommy Kelly, running back Leon Washington and safety Tavon Wilson. There are still two inactives to be determined.
If the Patriots could lose Talib for any game, the Jets would be a good one to pick. They don’t have a traditional No. 1 receiver to take away. Still, the key beating the Jets may be to force Geno Smith to turn over the ball. When he throws more interceptions than touchdowns, New York loses.
We’ll know whether Gronkowski is playing 90 minutes before the game. That’s when the last two inactives will be decided. We’ll be keeping you updated with all the latest news and analysis all day down here in East Rutherford, N.J.
