Andre Carter , Gerard WarrenFOXBORO, Mass. — The Patriots have announced the signing of a veteran defensive end familiar to New England.

The team has signed Andre Carter, who was with the team in 2011. The 13-year veteran had 10 sacks with the Patriots as a starter that season in 14 starts. He had just 2 1/2 last year with the Raiders.

New England also signed defensive tackle Sealver Siliga to the practice squad. The former Utah Ute has played with the Seahawks, Broncos and 49ers since going undrafted in 2011. Siliga is 6-foot-2, 325 pounds. He played in one game last year with Denver.

To make room for Siliga, the team released cornerback Travis Howard from the practice squad. To make room for Carter, New England released defensive tackle Andre Neblett on Monday. He played sparingly against the Jets on Sunday.
