pink flagOne aspect of the NFL’s annual breast cancer awareness campaign will not be returning for a second week.

The pink flags used to signal penalties in Week 5 will be replaced by the traditional yellow flags in Week 6, NFL spokesman Michael Signora said in an email to USA Today on Monday.

Signora cited confusion on television broadcasts and a lack of contrast between the flags and the rest of the pink gear on the field as the primary reasons behind the switch.

Last week marked the first time pink flags have been used league-wide. They made a one-game appearance during a Dolphins-Jets matchup last October after an 11-year-old boy suggested the idea in an email to commissioner Roger Goodell.

The use of other pink equipment — including cleats, gloves, socks, wristbands, captaincy patches and hats — will continue through Week 7.
