The Tigers were threatening in the top of the sixth inning and, while they were able to put a couple of runs on the board, one of their own helped limit the damage for the Red Sox.
With runners on the corners and no outs, Jhonny Peralta hit a grounder to Dustin Pedroia. The second baseman was able to tag out Victor Martinez between first and second base, but he was also able to complete a rare double play when he noticed Prince Fielder was caught between third and home.
Pedroia fired the ball to Jarrod Saltalamacchia, who was able to catch up to Fielder, tagging him out as he made a belly flop type of slide back to third — although, his attempt to reach the base fell a few feet short.
