October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, and there are lots of amazing ways that sports leagues, teams and players are showing their support.

On Saturday, the Detroit Red Wings will host their annual Breast Cancer Awareness Night at Joe Louis Arena, and Red Wings goaltender Jimmy Howard will be using a special pink and white mask.

According to Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press, the mask “will be auctioned off later to benefit local cancer organizations.” St. James wrote that “Howard also will wear a pink glove and blocker, but isn’t sure whether he’ll have time to break in pads.”

This is a fantastic gesture by Howard, and hopefully other NHL goaltenders will do the same throughout the month.
