The 11-time All-Star and four-time NBA scoring champion will officially announce his retirement from basketball during the 76ers’ home opener against Miami on Oct. 10, ESPN’s Chris Broussard reports.
SLAM Magazine first reported back in August that Iverson, who has not played an NBA game since 2010, was days away from retirement, citing a source close to the guard. It has taken nearly two months, but that report seems to finally be coming to fruition.
Iverson began and ended his NBA career in Philadelphia, sandwiched around brief stints with the Nuggets, Pistons and Grizzlies. He retires with a career average of 26.7 points, 6.2 assists and 3.7 rebounds per game, as well as a 29.7 point-per-game playoff scoring average that ranks second all-time behind Michael Jordan.
