Daniel Thomas, , Mike PounceyMike Pouncey was served a subpoena along with the Dolphins loss in New England on Sunday, and the situation might be more serious than it seems.

The Dolphins center is good friends with former Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez, even sharing a room with him during their time at Florida, and is now being summonsed to testify before a grand jury in connection with Hernandez’s murder investigation. The subpoena might be for more than just an informational session with Pouncey, though, and Sports Illustrated’s Greg Bedard even suggests he could face some charges.

“Overall, I would say this is a serious situation for Mike Pouncey,” Bedard said during an appearance on WQAM’s The Joe Rose Show in Miami on Monday. “This is not a situation where they just think he might have evidence towards the charges against Aaron Hernandez. If he goes in there [to testify before the grand jury] thinking that’s what it’s about, he will be underprepared. He should be prepared that the authorities are looking at him in regards to some charges.”

Pouncey’s twin brother Maurkice, who is an All-Pro center with the Pittsburgh Steelers, could be ordered to testify at some point, too. The Steelers visit Foxboro on Sunday, but Maurkice is on season-ending injured reserve with an ACL tear, making it unlikely that he travels with the team for the game. So authorities might not be able to serve him quite so easy, if they so chose to.
