The man accused of beating Adrian Peterson‘s two-year-old son, leading to his death on Friday, has a past record of abuse.

Patterson was charged and indicted on several counts of simple assault on the mother of his child and her three-year-old son in June 2012, according to the report. He was sentenced to one year in jail in each of the charges, but his sentence was suspended on the condition that he attend domestic violence counseling.

Patterson is currently being held on $750,000 bail. Another hearing is scheduled for Oct. 30 to determine if he will be ordered to serve his original sentences.
