Ben Roethlisberger has been sacked 15 times already this season, landing him second on the NFL’s leaderboard through four weeks. So, it’s no wonder the Steelers are seeking out help along the offensive line.
The Steelers acquired offensive tackle Levi Brown from the Cardinals on Wednesday, according to Pro Football Talk. The Cardinals will get some “late-round stuff” in return for the fifth-overall pick from the 2007 draft.
Brown, 29, has started 79 of a possible 81 games in his career, although he missed the entire 2012 season with a torn triceps muscle. His durability will be a welcome addition for a Steelers line ravaged by injuries already this season. If they are expecting a reliable tackle on the outside, though, the Steelers haven’t been keeping close enough tabs on Brown.
Through four games this season, the Cardinals have allowed quarterback Carson Palmer to be sacked 10 times, and Brown was responsible for at least three of those, allowing Rams defensive end Robert Quinn to beat him as many times in a Week 1 loss.
Brown will likely compete with incumbent left tackle Mike Adams and reserve Cody Wallace for playing time in front of Roethlisberger.
