Rex Ryan Seems to Suggest Bedroom Behavior for Jets Players Before Game Against Patriots

Rex RyanSunday’s game against the Patriots is a big one for the Jets. New York is 3-3 this season and already dropped its first contest against AFC East rival New England, which is 5-1.

While that would seem to portend that coach Rex Ryan and every other member of his club should be laser-focused and working hard, Ryan instead has had to spend a portion of this week clarifying things — like what he expects out of the bedroom activities of his players.

Ryan drew some raised eyebrows this week when he told players to be well-rested for Sunday’s game, adding, “Don’t do nothing for your wife.”

Some Jets players immediately inferred that he was speaking about the old sports advice of, er, saving all manly energy for the big game. Defensive lineman Sheldon Richardson told the New York Daily News that’s “most definitely” what Ryan meant.

Ryan, realizing his choice of words probably had some reporters furiously scribbling already, went to the press room and explained to media members that that was not what he meant, according to the Daily News.

New Jets wide receiver Josh Cribbs was the one who relayed Ryan’s comments, and he framed it more that Ryan was saying players should rest their legs and not do any chores for their wives. When asked if anything suggestive was said, he told reporters they were “sick” (or “silly,” depending on the news source).

It looks like Ryan was just meddling with his players’ honey-do lists and nothing more. But considering the Jets’ track record against the Patriots and what promises to be a tough test, maybe Ryan should hold off on the advice and just schedule extra snaps — ON THE FOOTBALL FIELD — for the rest of the week.
