The Dodgers’ past and future shared a touching, champagne-soaked moment in the aftermath of Monday’s NLDS-clinching win over Atlanta.
During the locker room celebration after the 4-3 win at Dodger Stadium, Los Angeles starter Clayton Kershaw was embraced by goggles-wearing Dodgers legend Sandy Koufax, who pitched the team to four World Series titles in the 1950s and ’60s.
Kershaw, a virtual lock to win the National League Cy Young Award, allowed two runs over six innings in Monday’s clincher, and he expressed how much it means to have the support of a Hall of Famer like Koufax.
“He’s just happy for us. Sandy is such a great guy. I think he genuinely cares about not only this team but kind of our well being,” Kershaw told True Blue LA. “He cares about us. That’s awesome.
“I have a great relationship with him. I have a ton of respect for him. To get a hug and get a ‘Good job’ from a guy like that, from a guy that’s been there, from a guy that’s done this before and was the best at it for a long time is pretty special.”
