Sebastian VollmerThe Patriots watched another one of their star players go down with an injury on Sunday.

Sebastian Vollmer had his legs rolled up on during a Stevan Ridley run up the right side, and the big right tackle stayed down for an extended period of time and had to be carted off the field. He began screaming in agony almost immediately as the Dolphins’ defender rolled up on him. He was ruled out for the rest of the game by the Patriots only minutes after suffering the injury.

Vollmer, 29, started all eight games for the Patriots this season. He signed a four-year contract with the team during the offseason. The deal is for $17 million with $8.5 million guaranteed and another $9 million in incentives. The incentive clauses in his contract are directly tied to playing time, which will be impacted by the injury.

Vollmer, who was selected as a second-team All Pro tackle after the 2010 season, missed 11 games over the past two seasons, leading to the injury-related language in his new contract. Third-year tackle Marcus Cannon, who has played a lot of guard this season, will take over duties at right tackle
