Tedy Bruschi‘s NFL career was filled with honors, accolades and trophies, but he was used to that by the time the Patriots drafted him in the third round in 1996.
Bruschi enjoyed one of the most prolific college football careers in University of Arizona history, and the school is going to recognize the two-time first-team All-American for his achievements this weekend. Arizona plans to retire Bruschi’s No. 68 jersey at halftime of the Wildcats game with Utah on Saturday, according to ESPN’s Brett McMurphy.
During Bruschi’s four-year career at Arizona, he was named to three All-America teams (first-team in 1994 and 1995, second-team in 1993), was selected as the Pac-10’s Defensive Player of the Year as a senior and tied the NCAA sack record with 52 — although the NCAA didn’t begin officially counting sacks until the 2000 season. The college defensive end was converted to linebacker in the pros, where he was selected to one Pro Bowl, named to two All-Pro teams and won three Super Bowls during 13 seasons with the Patriots.
Bruschi was voted into the College Football Hall of Fame earlier this year and was inducted into the Patriots Hall of Fame over the summer.
