Tim Cahill really wants the New York Red Bulls to win their first major trophy.
On Sunday, the Red Bulls midfielder scored a goal just seven seconds into his team’s Major League Soccer game against the Houston Dynamo. It was the fastest goal in MLS’ 18-year history.
Cahill, 33, controlled a pass with his chest, rounded a defender and fired a shot from distance. The powerful drive beat Dynamo goalkeeper Tally Hall, giving the Red Bulls an early lead.
If the Red Bulls beat Houston and the Chicago Fire next week, they’ll claim the Supporters Shield, which goes to the team with the most points in the MLS regular season. The Australian veteran Cahill has already done his part, as far as the first item on the agenda is concerned.
