Larry Krystkowiak is a crime-fighting machine.
Just a few days after stopping a bike thief in his tracks on the University of Utah campus, the head coach of the Utes’ basketball team thwarted another thief, according to ESPN.
The Utah athletic offices were robbed of thousands of dollars worth of video equipment and gear over the past week, leading Krystkowiak to start something of a neighborhood watch among his players and staff. After spotting the thief at a volleyball game recently, Krystkowiak put his team on alert and told them to contact him if anyone spotted the perp.
On Tuesday, one of the assistant track coaches at the school noticed the thief wandering about campus and gave Krystkowiak a heads up. The coach then unleashed a few of his team managers, who were able to catch the thief and hand him over to police. Krystkowiak was so appreciative of their efforts that he wrote a $1,000 check for the two capturing managers to split.
The 49-year-old coach is entering his third season as coach of the Utes, and, if his track record with crime is any indication, the team is in for a treat this season.
