Vitor Faverani is still getting used to the language in his new country, but he seemed to have the hang of this basketball thing on Wednesday.

Faverani, the 25-year-old rookie from Brazil, broke out over the last seven minutes of the first half to spark the Celtics in their second preseason game. He threw down two dunks, first over Josh Powell and then over Andrea Bargnani, and added a step-back 3-pointer to help the Celtics pull within one point at halftime. (They trailed by three points when Faverani entered the game.)

The dunk over Powell was probably more impressive, even though Powell is just 6-foot-9 and Bargnani is a 7-footer, because Bargnani couldn’t defend the rim against a kids’ YMCA team.

Faverani finished the game with 11 points and six rebounds. If not for the late push by Chris Babb, Phil Pressey and others, Faverani might have been the Celtics’ player of the game.

Check out both of Faverani’s highlight dunks in the video below.
