Aqib TalibFOXBORO, Mass. — It looks like Aqib Talib‘s return to the field could be coming Monday night against the Panthers.

Talib spoke to the media on Thursday for the first time since he injured his hip against the Saints in Week 6, which is a good sign in itself. The cornerback says he’s “day to day.”

“Practicing good, man,” Talib said. “Day to day. Trying to get back.”

Rob Ninkovich also addressed reporters on Thursday. From Ninkovich’s statements, it sounds like the defensive end expects his teammate back on the field against Carolina.

“Unbelievable player,” Ninkovich said. “Happy to have him on the field with us. I think the guys that stepped up while he was gone did a great job, but having him back is just going to help us as far as just having more depth and keep guys rolling.”

The Patriots dropped just one game while Talib was injured. In Talib’s place, Alfonzo Dennard, Logan Ryan, Marquice Cole and Kyle Arrington all stepped up.

“I was their No. 1 fan,” Talib said. “Texting them, trying to help them any way I can. But those guys, they played their butts off for as long as I was out.”

Talib has allowed just nine receptions on 29 targets this season for 139 yards with four interceptions.
