Ben Stiller Almost Made A Movie Called ‘Go To Hell, Mike Piazza’ About Really Hating the Former Mets Catcher

AAAAAApparently there’s more to life than being really, really ridiculously good looking. Like hating Mike Piazza.

Just ask Remy “Slider” Thompson, the fictional character Hollywood star Ben Stiller would have played had his script forĀ Go To Hell, Mike Piazza ever come to fruition.

Stiller wrote the script in 2001, the year after his hometown Yankees defeated the cross-town rival Mets in the World Series for their third consecutive championship. Piazza, of course, was the face of the Mets franchise at the time.

The film centered around Thompson, who grew up with Piazza in school. Piazza was the prototypical popular kid, while Thompson trailed him in the dust. The two even shared a birthday, meaning no one came to Thompson’s parties in favor of the future MLB star’s “Piazza Parties.”

Here’s an excerpt from the hysterical plot summary found over at splitsider.com

“Remy [Thompson] is now a 30-something sausage vendor who’s elated to open up his own hot dog restaurant at Dodger Stadium, only to have Piazza transferred there and his restaurant shut down as a result of the team spending so much money to get Piazza. Remy then moves and spends several years opening a restaurant at the Mets’ Shea Stadium, only to have the same thing happen. ‘At that moment,’ he explains, ‘I decided to dedicate the rest of my existence to ruining the life of Mike Piazza.'”

Piazza would have signed on to co-star in the movie, albeit on one condition.

“My mom’s kind of upset with the title,” Piazza told Sports Illustrated at the time. “If they were to approach me, I’d have to ask for something a little more subtle. I’m a Catholic boy.”

We can only pray that someday this movie will be made.
