Chelsea’s Samuel Eto’o Accidentally Scores Easy Goal, Embarrasses Schalke Goalkeeper Timo Hildebrand (GIF)

Samuel Eto’o is one of the purest goal scorers of his generation, but even someone of his talent can’t plan to score like this.

The Chelsea striker accidentally scored one of the easiest goals of his career Wednesday when he was rewarded for doing a little bit of dirty work.

In the 31st minute of his team’s UEFA Champions League game against German club FC Schalke 04, Eto’o pressured Schalke goalkeeper Timo Hildebrand as he was about to clear the ball up the field. Having taken his sweet time, Hildebrand suddenly found Eto’o bearing down on him, rushed his kick and hit Eto’o’s outstretched leg with the ball. Naturally, it ricocheted straight into the goal.

This was the second goal Eto’o has scored since joining Chelsea in August, but it was nowhere near as controversial as his first. During an Oct. 19 Premier League game against Cardiff City, Eto’o sneaked behind goalkeeper David Marshall, knocked it to a teammate as Marshall tried to bounce it and gratefully slotted the return pass home.

If Eto’o, 32, is scoring goals like these, there’s no telling what he’ll do once he reaches peak levels of sharpness and fitness.
