Derrick Rose’s Knee Injury Not Making Rajon Rondo Rethink ACL Recovery Plans

Rajon RondoRajon Rondo is nearing a return to games, perhaps sooner than later. Whenever he comes back, he won’t be facing off against Derrick Rose, who is out for the season after injuring his right knee.

Rose’s injury was most disappointing because he had just started playing again after missing all of the 2012-13 season with a torn ACL in his left knee. That’s the same injury Rondo suffered in his left knee last February. But as Rondo continues to work out with the Celtics in practices and before games, he isn’t thinking twice after Rose’s setback.

“What’s going to happen is going to happen,” Rondo told Steve Bulpett of the Boston Herald. “It’s not like he rushed, so that’s what I’m saying. He took a long time, and still things happen. It’s the game we play. It’s part of it. I can come back early and do the same thing. He came back late and it happened to him. It was just unfortunate. That’s just how it is.”

The Celtics have predictably struggled to run their offense without their point guard this season. They are 26th in the NBA in points per game and 25th in offensive efficiency. They are also the fifth-worst team in the league in turnover percentage.

At least Rondo appears to be moving well. Rondo raced teammate MarShon Brooks prior to Saturday’s game against the Hawks and appeared to win. So the Celtics might be able to look forward to getting their court general back in short order — and not a moment too soon.
