The World Series wrapped up at Fenway Park on Wednesday, but this week apparently needed just one more shocking finish.
A game-ending obstruction and a pick-off ended a pair of games between the Red Sox and Cardinals in the most unlikely of fashions, and on Thursday night, the Bengals and Dolphins ended their game on a play that has only occurred twice before in NFL history.
In overtime, with the score tied 20-20 and Cincinnati facing a 3rd-and-10 from their own 8-yard line, Dolphins defensive end Cameron Wake sacked Andy Dalton, who was holding the ball just across the goal line at the time. The play was reviewed and the call on the field of a safety was upheld, making Miami just the third team — and first since 2004 — to win a game on a safety in overtime.
The victory was a much-needed one for the Dolphins, too. Last week’s loss in New England was their fourth in a row, and another defeat would push Miami even further out of contention in the AFC East.
