Golden TateThe Legion of Boom took a major hit this week, as Seahawks cornerbacks Walter Thurmond and Brandon Browner are both facing suspensions from the NFL. And some of their Seahawks teammates are none too happy about it.

Wide receiver Golden Tate was the first player to step up and discuss the suspensions openly on Tuesday, calling his two teammates “selfish” for hurting the NFC’s top team.

“Everyone should realize where this team is,” Tate said on KIRO-AM in Seattle on Tuesday. “You are affecting way more than yourself. I feel like that was kind of a selfish move on both those guys’ part. But it is what it is. The show must go on, and that’s what we’re gonna do.”

Thurmond, who has developed into a primary contributor in the Seahawks’ secondary this season, is facing a four-game suspension for violating the league’s substance-abuse policy. Browner, a 2011 Pro Bowler and one of Seattle’s starting outside cornerbacks, is facing a possible one-year ban for violating the same substance-abuse policy. Browner’s suspension is more severe as he was in the league’s substance-abuse program already, and once admitted to the program, any subsequent offense is punished by an indefinite ban with the chance at reinstatement after one year.

The Seahawks are the NFL’s best team at 10-1 on the season. They also boast the league’s second-best pass defense, which will certainly take a major hit without Browner or Thurmond, who would be able to return in Week 17. Given their status as the NFC’s prime Super Bowl contenders, it’s no surprise that Tate and other Seahawks players would be upset with their two teammates.
