Here’s a play that would have fit right in during Sunday night’s Foxboro fumble fest.

Shawn Stankavage, a senior quarterback at Cardinal Gibbons High School in Raleigh, N.C., pulled the odd trifecta last Friday night of taking a sack, fumbling the football and throwing a touchdown pass — all on one snap.

On fourth down from inside the Southern Durham 5-yard line, Stankavage took a shotgun snap and was immediately swarmed by defenders. A blitzing linebacker got a hand on the signal caller as he tumbled to the turf and knocked the ball loose. Another Southern defender overpursued the fumbled football, however, giving Stankavage time to regain his footing, corral the ball and find an open receiver in the back of the end zone for the score.

The touchdown tied the game at 21 on the final play of the third quarter, but Southern outscored Gibbons 12-7 over the final frame, with Stankavage’s final drive stalling out on the 13-yard line. The loss knocked Gibbons out of the state tournament.
